Aluminum Patio Covers - An Abundance of Choice

The main dilemma homeowners face when choosing the right aluminum patio cover are the materials, details and colors that become the most important aspect of building an amazing patio.

Aluminum patio covers designs have really changed over time, modern day technology has advanced aluminum covers to have an aesthetically pleasing look to them that can stand up to the elements for a virtually maintenance-free period of years. They are less expensive then wood but yet they can match the aesthetic of the house from which they will be built and they can also be built to look like wood. To choose the best
aluminum cover though you will need to start by deciding how big of a cover you will need, what you want the aluminum patio cover to look like, and what purposes you will be using your patio for.

When it comes to details... patio covers tend to have a great selection of details. Edge details make up the specific and often overlooked detail but it can have a huge impact on the style and look of the patio cover. Desert Sand our second color selection is perfect for exterior house paint colors that have earthy neutral and natural tones to them. Mojave Tan is the perfect tan for your home Mojave Tan adds a warming effect to your earthy exterior paint. Adobe is a great darker color perfect for creating that darker calming element to your
patio cover. Sonora Beige a nice creamy beige color that compliments your exterior and last but not least Latte, think a nice robust coffee with just a light touch of vanilla cream. The perfect blend for other neutral colors paint and enjoy.

Nothing speaks more volumes and elegance then patio columns. These architectural beauties make your patio smile with confidence. They come in many common styles. Columns styles can be tapered, non-tapered, round and composite square columns crafted in durable fiberglass and PVC, as well as Wood Columns ranging from the classic to the uniquely detailed. You can also do half stone half column for a more unique touch.

Extending this beauty and detail of your
aluminum patio and columns are column cap bases that provide a standout of the crowd unique and elegant way that says, " I'm original." These masterpieces will make your home reminiscent of royalty during the Roman Empire.

Lattice Patio Covers

Patio covers complement your home's architectural style and at same time provide outdoor space for entertainment or a quiet game of pool. The scene gets interrupted with temperature and weather changes, and you are left with no option but to move to the main house. A Lattice patio cover is an easy-to-use, economical and versatile system to protect your patio from the vagaries of nature. The discrepancy is in that, unlike solid patio covers, Lattice patio covers block 50 to 60 percent of the sun.

On most counts it is weather conditions and the exterior of the house that decide in favor of Lattice patio covers. cover material has to be water resistant and rust proof, and should not crack, peel or split. Wooden Lattice patio covers have a natural appeal, but require regular painting and checks for termites etc. In keeping with preferred sensibilities,
patio cover manufacturers have found an answer with aluminum that resembles wood in form. The new wood-grained aluminum gives the look of real painted wood that is UV resistant, heat and fire resistant, termite proof and does not crack, peel or rot for first three years. Another advantage is that aluminum Lattice covers have built-in gutters presenting a clean attractive roofline. One can select from factory-baked enamel finish of natural cedar, or from a variety of colors available.

The Lattice patio cover with open framework of crisscrossed wood or metal strips in regular or patterned spaces is a new design available in regional, standard or custom models. These covers can be remodeled to fit in with any patio, whether attached to the house or a free-standing one in the yard. For a greener look, one can cover the Lattice with vines or other flowery creepers or, for a modernistic design, use half solid and half Lattice.

Patio Covers: Enjoy The Outdoors Without The Rain.

A patio is one of the most used areas of the home. You can entertain and visit with friends and family on your patio. It is a gathering place for all kinds of occasions. The patio is used for eating, drinking, playing, and having fun in general. Considering the amount of use a patio gets, it would be wonderful to plan things without having to worry about rain or the blazing sun.

Deck umbrellas can provide shade from the sun, which will help you and those who gather on your patio to stay cool and avoid sunburns. This is one option for those who want to use this area of their home more, but avoid the pitfalls of outdoor living. The one big downfall to deck umbrellas, however, is that it cannot provide real and reliable protection from rain or even the sun on particularly hot and windy days.

People who love to spend time outside, Outdoor covers are very ideal for them. There are varieties of types and materials in these covers and can be a welcome addition to your home. You can avoid the harsh extremes of weather and can keep items in that area safe from the weather by covering a patio.

Before buying a patio cover or any type of cover that you are going to put outside of your house it is important to check with the permit office. You must follow certain laws and guideline for putting up covers and your best solution is to go out and check what those laws are and make sure you follow them.

The next thing that you should look at is what kind of material do you want the cover to be made of. Some materials are quite expensive and others are cheaper. Looking into things like a sunroom are also options to those who want to enjoy the outdoors without the risk of rain and sunburn. A material such as latticework is cheaper, and is a simple and elegant solution, but will give you little protection from the elements.

Other
patio cover solutions include building a 'cage' around the area, which is basically a screened in porch area and can include a pool area as well. A solid structure can be built as well, but no light or other weather would be able to get through it. Clear covers are available and they do allow light through, but protect you from rain and falling objects. Whatever route you take, a cover is sure to be a great addition to your home.

Patio Covers In Austin: Diy Vs. Custom Patio Covers

Although a number of homeowners in Texas love having patios in their homes, the question of whether to opt for DIY kits or custom-built patio covers in Austin usually comes up. For residents who have found themselves in this dilemma, the important thing to do is to be objective and to first consider the pros and cons of each option.

They are also preferred by people who have a knack for building and designing things on their own. Since these particular patio covers come in complete kits, they also include guides and manuals for building and maintenance. Do-it-Yourself
patio project guides are also available online through a number of sources. These guides come with details on what materials to use, how to set them up and the ideal measurements for the structure.

There are certain drawbacks if a homeowner opts for the DIY route. Although finding DIY patio covers in Austin itself requires little effort, the act of building a patio cover on your own can be a challenge. As with most DIY kits, the parts included with DIY patio covers in Austin are of a precise number. Missing screws and damaged posts are always a possibility.

patio covers in Austin will also require the homeowners to do an initial assessment of their initial patio on their own, taking precise measurements in order to see what particular kit they need to get. A DIY kit will come in limited styles and sizes, which can be a problem if your patio is of a particular size or if you’re thinking of a particular style for your home.
Aside from actually having to build patio covers on your own, another possible downside is the act of installing creature comforts. Gas lines, electricity, and lighting can all be included by the contractor if their building custom patio covers in Austin. With DIY kits, homeowners will have to figure out how to set up these additions on their own.

Custom patio covers are the preferred option of residents who don’t have the time or expertise to do patio covers in Austin on their own. patio covers in Austin have the option to choose a particular style or design. In addition, they can also choose to further customize their patio with lighting, custom columns, gas lines and the like.

Since these patio covers will be custom-built to fit your home, they will require the aid of a contractor. Extend Your Fun Area With Aluminum Patio Covers

Aluminum patio covers are very popular among homeowners as a convenient and economical way to extend the usable area around their house. Ease of installation, durability and low-maintenance are the main reasons for their popularity.

Aluminum
actually fights against corrosion. patio covers made of aluminum usually come with a manufacturer's limited lifetime warranty, they're so durable. Homeowners see a way of saving on maintenance costs. Houses with aluminum patio covers command a good resale price.

A patio cover extends the indoor to the outdoor, and vice versa! Here, you can sit and relax with friends or with a book, sheltered from the hot sun, yet feeling the fresh natural breeze blow through your hair. I like to sit out under the
patio cover listening to the rhythm of the gently falling rain, with my hands locked under the back of my head.

Cleaning the aluminum patio covers is very easy. All you need is a long-handled brush to reach up to the conveniently angled aluminum patio cover, and some soap and water. You may want to use a cleaning solution which is specially prepared for aluminum
.

When you order your
aluminum patio cover you may want to get a drainage system built-in at the same time. Most contractors are willing and able to do this for you. Having a drainage system built into the aluminum patio cover is a great idea to prevent water from collecting in dips and hollows around the patio.

Aluminum is easy to paint. You can paint the aluminum patio cover any shade of color that catches your fancy. You can have it painted with a pattern. That's how easy it is to match your aluminum patio cover with the exterior appearance of your house, or with the patio furniture. On the other hand, you may want to get a prepainted
aluminum patio cover. Visit an aluminum patio cover showroom and you will discover the amazing variety of color schemes and patterns that are readily available.

An aluminum patio cover is a wise addition to your house. It requires a one-time investment only. After that it is virtually maintenance free for its lifetime. It will raise the value of the house, and in case you think of moving, the resale value of the house will improve because of the aluminum patio cover.

There are less costly options for
patio covers other than aluminum. But these are hardly as durable as aluminum or as easy to maintain as aluminum, and certainly not as good looking! Instead of looking for an alternate material, you should go through the wide range of aluminum patio covers that are available. Choose one which suits your budget.

Wood Vs Aluminum - Patio Covers

Trying to decide on the material that should be used on your new patio cover can be frustrating. The first thought is "what type of wood should I use?" There is smooth, rough, Douglas fir, redwood, spruce and more. Here is one scenario that should help you to make an informed decision.

Your new wood patio cover has just been installed and it is beautiful. But while the natural beauty of wood is undeniable, there are also many drawbacks. It must be protected from various weather conditions. Acceptable methods include paint, stain and other various sealers (clear or colored). So you invest a little sweat equity and do it yourself. But even after all of your hard work, the sun dries and bleaches it and the paint peels. Before too long you start noticing cracks. These cracks allow moisture to be absorbed like a sponge and the wood starts to twist and warp. The nails start pulling out allowing the wood to move even more.

Now what? A little maintenance should fix the problem. Right? You make a trip to the hardware store where you purchase wood, nails, spackle, caulking and paint. At checkout you are thinking "wait a minute, I already paid for all of this material once". You replace a few components, re-nail, spackle and caulk, and re-paint as needed. But the problem still exists only to repeat itself over and over again. You ask yourself why did I ever have this thing built with wood? This continual maintenance is killing me, not to mention draining my bank account. If only I would have built an Aluma
wood shade structure.

There are many benefits to using Alumawood:

· The embossed texture simulates real
wood.
· A variety of designs are available. Choose lattice or solid top. Choose rafter styles.
· Other options include architectural columns and railings, ceiling fans and post lights.
· Offered in a variety of colors to compliment your stucco or wood finishes.
· It is virtually maintenance free. Just rinse it off once in awhile.
· Never paint again. Paint will not chip, crack or peel.
· Fire retardant. Possible home insurance rebate.
· Termite proof. Mold proof.
· Possible tax rebates through the Energy Star program.
· Peace of mind.

You shouldn't have to worry about your
patio cover after it is built. Just enjoy it.

Choosing a Prefabricated Patio Cover Kit

There are three basic styles of patio covers manufactured, Flat pan, W-pan and Insulated. Each manufacturer has their own proprietary specifications with all the parts designed to fit together.

The design of the roof panels in combination with the thickness of the metal that the panels are made from will determine the spanning capability of the roof panel at a specific design load.
patio covers made from aluminum are rot and rust free providing decades of service at a reasonable cost. The prefabricated nature of the product makes them a good do-it-yourself project.

For example: a 3" tall W-pan formed from.025 aluminum will give you a 20# snow load at a 10' span. Each suppliers design will have different spanning capabilities so check with the supplier for exact numbers. Your local permit office can tell you the snow load for your area.

"W" or "V" Pan Style covers are typically 2.5" or 3" tall and 8" to 24" wide. The name comes from the v or w shape of the pans. The panels interlock and are used with a "G" shaped exterior fascia/gutter frame work to complete the cover. This style cover is available formed from.020,.025,.032 and.040 thickness aluminum. A few companies offer a steel version. This style cover is popular because of the excellent shade and weather protection afforded at a reasonable cost. "W" pan styles are more difficult to keep free of leaves, hail damage dents will show, and they do radiate some heat from the sun.

Flat Pan Style covers are most often 3" tall, in a 8" or 12" wide pan. The lost common thickness is.030 aluminum. This style cover is popular because of the excellent shade and weather protection afforded at a reasonable cost. The covers are most often sold with an attaching channel, side fascias and a front gutter section to complete the top of the cover. Because of the flat style they can be used as a top for a screen room. They are subject to hail damage, the resulting dents will show, and they do radiate some heat from the sun.

Insulated covers are made from two sheets of aluminum bonded to a closed cell foam core. The density and thickness of the foam core combined with the thickness of the aluminum all effect the spanning capability of the panels. Insulated panels carry greater loads, do a great job of blocking out heat from the sun,and make a very good roof for sun rooms and screen rooms. This type of cover gives you a ceiling, roof, and insulation in a low pitched compact area.

Eave attached or wall attached. Your cover can be installed on the eave or under the eave. If you are installing the cover in corner situation local code will require a wall mounted installation with gutters on the house above the cover.

With a few extra parts it is possible to work around fireplaces. For areas where you have a bay window or an angled wall you are attaching to the insulated panels are more accommodating.

The next consideration is the supporting post and beams. Set back beams support the roof panels and create an overhang. Typically, over hangs are 6" up to 24", an over hang of 18" looks the best. The design of the beam, the thickness of the metal and the size of the beam will determine the beams spanning ability between post. Spans between post can be 6' up to 20' with 8' between post the most common.

Post can be installed on the concrete slab or deck on a bracket or mounted in the ground in cement. The most common post are 3" x 3" x 8' or 10' lengths. Larger sizes and a host of post styles are available to accommodate most any architectural style. For screen rooms the screen wall framing eliminates the need for post and beams, as the screen walls act as supports for the roof.

Pre-fabricated
patio covers offer a variety of solutions to providing shade and weather protection for your patio area. Covered patios get much more use then non covered decks and patios. They add value to your home and enhance your out door living environment. Options include ceiling fan accommodations, sky-lights, wall enclosures, custom arrangement of parts to accommodate your needs.

Make Your Patio Cover an Extension of Your Home

One of the most common mistakes inexperienced Houston builders make when putting up a patio cover is not matching it seamlessly to the house. If you can tell where the house left off and the cover was added, you are looking at an amateur job. After all, the goal of a patio cover in Houston is not just to shade you from the sun and protect you from the rain; you also want to improve the value of your residence.

Get out of the Sun

You know perfectly well what the weather is like in Houston during the summer. In fact, most of the year is hot and rainy. A
patio cover will provide shelter from sun and rain, enhance the beauty of your home, and increase your living space. Talk about your win/win situation.

By putting up a cover, you enable yourself to enjoy the outdoors regardless of the weather. That barbecue you planned for the weekend doesn't need to be canceled if those thunderclouds burst, and no one will need to run through a storm to flip the steaks while the guests crowd around the kitchen. Add a brazier and you can use the
patio year round for social gatherings.

Features to Consider

Recessed lighting, ceiling fans, gas lines, and decorative columns are pretty standard. If you want a bit more panache, you have many things you can choose. Add some walls and make a partially enclosed cover so you can use it year round and decrease the odds of rain infiltration. Outdoor draperies can shade you as the sun sets and keeps the sun out of your eyes. Customized concrete or brick work can enhance the look of your
patio floor.

Of course, not all covers look the same. Perhaps your best selection is a peaked roof that blends seamlessly with the original roof line - shingles and all. A flat roof that is solid or one that is slatted can be fitted to houses with different styles. Do you own a two story home? Let the top of your cover become a deck that leads out from your master suite. If you have pictures of
patio covers you like, bring them out and show them to your potential Houston builder. Communication is essential to getting exactly what you want.

Pick the Right Person

I can't stress this enough; find the right Houston builder. You will be spending a significant amount of money on this renovation and you want quality. Between hurricanes, tornadoes, extreme rainfall, and other weather phenomena common to the Houston area, the structure had better be ready to withstand a lot. A company that has been around for a year may offer you a better price up front, but a shoddy job costs you a lot more in the long run.

Ask people who have had a
patio cover built if they would use their builder again. If they would, ask for the name. If you must go search online yourself, ask for references that are recent and go look at the work - with the owners' permission. You will get ideas for your own job as well as reassuring yourself that you are picking the right individual. This will ensure that your new patio cover will blend seamlessly with your home and provide years of pleasure.

Benefits of Insulated Patio Covers

Patio covers have become quite popular in recent years for homeowners looking to improve their outdoor space. covers provide sun and rain protection that will allow you to spend more comfortable time outside. They also will keep your furniture dry, allowing it to last for several extra years. A cover can also reduce your energy bills and make your yard look even prettier.  Insulated patio covers offer even more benefits to homeowners.

Insulated
patio covers have a piece of insulation in the middle of two pieces of patio cover material. One popular choice of material is aluminum. Aluminum is lightweight, non-toxic, and will last for many years because it is quite durable. Aluminum is much less expensive than a wood or metal cover, and is available in many different colors, designs, and finishes. They can withstand extreme rain or sun as well as scratching. They can be cleaned very easily and require very little maintenance otherwise. To clean it, all you need to do is take a broom to it with some cleaning solution.

Insulated
patio covers have an advantage over non-insulated counterparts because they can keep your patio even cooler in hot summer months. The insulation is made of foam sheets that are placed in the middle of two aluminum panels. This design enhances the cover's effectiveness as a weather deterrent, and will also help reduce your energy bills by even more since it keeps the area under your patio cooler than ever before. Insulated covers can also have polystyrene cores and can be equipped with cleat connectors made of vinyl.

The covers are normally made with interlock features that make the padding useful since it becomes stuck tightly in between the aluminum pieces. Aluminum can be purchased with laminate finishes that will provide extra resistance during rain and snow periods. These covers will also mute the sound of raindrops, an added bonus. They require special treatments to your roof and can be fitted with plywood if you do not want an aluminum
cover.

All in all, you have many options when purchasing a cover - you get to choose the material, whether it is insulated or not, and if you want a finished insulated cover or not. Be sure to do adequate research before buying so you buy what is best for you. I recommend insulated
patio covers.

Make Your Backyard Renovation Easy With Patio Cover Kits

If your backyard could use a little extra love put those dreams of raised flowerbeds and cedar mulch on hold temporarily and think about how great your patio would look with a brand-new roof provided by one of the many patio cover kits available. Make no mistake, this is a fairly involved DIY project and not necessarily for those who are squeamish about home improvements; however make no mistake about it adding custom awnings or enclosures to your patio can really change the dynamic of your backyard and transform it into an inviting and personable space.

Whether you are interested in aluminum, wood or even fabric covers you can be assured that there are
patio kits available that meet your requirements. Not only are there a great variety of kits; but there are also a vast array of manufacturers, each one offering unique benefits that set their product apart. Alumawood is a fairly popular roof kit manufacturer that is known for their specially coated aluminum construction materials that are patterned to look like wood. Don't pigeonhole yourself to one manufacturer, however, there are many options out there so you should definitely spend some time doing comparison shopping to make sure you get exactly what you want.

While you are looking at manufacturers and building materials you should also consider what type of style would be most interesting. Pergolas are a favorite among many people and always a popular choice; however don't be afraid to look into custom solutions to see what's available. Many manufacturers offer a service where they will help you design a custom
cover kit uniquely tailored to your patio and your design. They will then precut and predrill all the pieces for you so once you get your kit in the mail it essentially just has to be assembled on site.

Lastly consider branching out from just
patio cover kits into other areas: like a carport roof for instance. Granted these two structures serve two totally different purposes however the point of all this is really to emphasize that you have a ton of options available to you and shouldn't feel pressured into making any one specific decision. Make, model, color, manufacturer and even design are all completely in your hands so long as you take the time to get all your facts in order and make an informed decision.

Patio Cover - Extend Your Living Space Outdoors in Comfort

Many people spend thousands of dollars on landscaping and landscaping-related elements in order to make their property attractive and inviting. Clearly, a well-manicured yard is a great place in which to spend leisure time. But a key element to allowing you to spend an increasing amount of restful and recuperative time in your own yard is the patio cover.

A quality patio cover will effectively extend the living space of your home so as to allow a whole host of outdoor activities. Relax in the shade provided by your retractable awning, for example, while sipping on a cool beverage. Make BBQ season a real pleasure by preparing chicken and ribs without wilting under the blistering summer heat.

The style and material for your
patio cover can take the form of just about anything you can imagine. As previously mentioned, the canvas awning -- retractable, removable or otherwise -- is a great option for many a home owner. Relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to install, the awning is a great solution for just about any part of the country. With a variety of colors and styles of fabric, design limitations will not be an issue.

The lightweight aluminum
patio cover is another style that has become more and more popular in recent years. These are designed typically to provide a complete shade solution as well as give you protection against the rain. Extend your outdoor cover season from early spring to late fall in most parts of the county simply by installing one of these. Make sure that you check out wind ratings before you commit to having one installed.

Some people, especially where rain is not as much of an issue, prefer a patio cover that filters the sun instead of blocking it out altogether. A combination of wood slats and wood lattice work can accomplish this. Allow climbing roses or wisteria to grow up, over and around to give a back-to-nature feel and look to your cover. Avoid the use of old growth redwood, if you so choose, and opt for a reclaimed or reconstituted wood in the building of your structure.

There is no limit to the style of patio cover you can ultimately choose for your backyard. Much of your decision depends on your design sensibilities and any budget related constraints you might have. Pros and Cons of Aluminum Carport and Patio Covers

Aluminum carports and patio covers have become a popular and attractive home improvement. The product itself has been in use for years. As a light weight and durable material, aluminum can be a great alternative to stick built or steel structures. Features, colors, and styles have evolved over the years to give homeowners many choices. Today we will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of these popular aluminum structures.

Advantages:

1) Durability - My parents have been living in the same house for over 30 years. Their patio cover was installed in the late 1960s, and is still standing and functional. This product will stand the test of time with little more than a cleaning once a year. Most companies engineer their units to withstand wind and snow loads. As a result, baring natural weather disasters, your
patio cover or carport should give you years of use.

2) Attractive - As stated above with a little maintainence your carport or patio cover will stay looking good for years. The aluminum pans will never rust. There are a variety of colors to choose from and several styles of framework that should satisfy any homeowner.

3) Structural simplicity - Because of the light weight nature of aluminum, a patio cover can be attached directly to your patio slab, and carports can be attached directly to your driveway. Also attachment to the house requires minimal anchoring. Note: some areas may require posts to be set in concrete, check with the codes department in your area. One of the best advantages of aluminum structures is the minimum fall required for installation. Aluminum carports and patio covers require only ¼" of fall /ft. spanned. A shingled roof requires a minimum of 4" of fall /ft spanned, which often creates problems with head room on the outside.

4) Functionality - Very few home improvement projects can provide the quality usefulness that an aluminum patio cover or carport can. patio covers over decks and
patios offer escape from direct sun and weather, and can make them much more useful and enjoyable. Aluminum carports (free standing or attached) can provide great shelter for your vehicles when a garage is not available .

Disadvantages

1) Bird Nests - The W-pan aluminum is notorious for attracting birds. There are several plugs that manufacturers offer and it is highly recommended you insist on these at the time of installation. They do add cost but will save you from the endless hassle of cleaning out the pans.

2) Trees - All aluminum carports and patio covers come with built in gutters and downspouts, in the fall if you live in a wooded area leaves are a constant problem. Since aluminum structures do not require as much slope on the roof, leaves and debris is much more likely to accumulate. The most common problem I see is where this accumulation of leaves is left unattended, stopping up gutters, backing up water and ultimately causing the panels to bow and leak.

3) Rust on framework - Most
aaluminum patio covers and carports are installed with steel bar joists, and posts, and while painted before installation, the natural exposure to the elements will eventually cause the parts to show rust (especially at ground contact)

4) Hail - The single most, problem with aluminum carports and patio covers is hail. We replace several of these each year. Because of the light weight nature of aluminum a hail storm can leave small unattractive dings in the panels. Most homeowners insurance cover this and in most cases if hail is hard enough you will have other damage to your home

Advantages of Vinyl Patio Covers

Building or fixing up your patio seemed like such a good idea. You imagined spending hours out on the patio, grilling, enjoying a cool drink and the warm summer sun, spending time with your family, and hosting social functions. Now, summer is here and you're staring at that empty patio through the sliding glass doors. The mercury is rising in the thermometer and the idea of spending time on that red-hot patio is anything but inviting. You've built a masterpiece, but there's no way you could bear fifteen minutes of the heat. You need to look into what vinyl patio covers can do for you.

Vinyl
patio covers provide you with the one thing you need the most: Shade. These heavy-duty patio roofs will protect your deck from the rays of the sun, keeping it considerably cooler and more comfortable than if you let it open. The covers are thick enough and strong enough to make a difference and they set up high enough off the ground to avoid a claustrophobic feeling and to provide meaningful shade.

Obviously, the idea of cooling down your patio is attractive, but what about the vinyl patio covers themselves? Fortunately, these products are good looking and available in an extensive array of styles and colors. You don't need to worry about turning your otherwise gorgeous patio into a clashing mess. You can find the right cover to make everything look perfect.

While covers won't break the bank, they're not necessarily cheap. That leads many people to wonder about their durability and longevity. No one wants to invest resources in a stopgap solution, after all. Luckily, that's not a concern with quality vinyl covers. The vinyl construction is lightweight, making set up easier, but the material is strong enough to fight off the elements for years. Remember, many houses use vinyl siding as a means of protection from the weather. The same kind of material is pressed into service for vinyl patio covers.

It all sounds wonderful. You will be able to use your
patio the way you intended. You will enjoy a cooler, more comfortable experience. You will have a great looking porch and the cover will last for years and years. There's only one thing that might be holding you back: Installation.

Most vinyl patio covers are easy enough for even an inexperienced do-it-yourselfer to handle. They're not complicated and you can get one up in position in an afternoon. If the idea of setting up your cover doesn't appeal to you, you'll be able to find many people who can do the installation and it will be easy enough that the labor shouldn't be cost-prohibitive.

Installing Patio Covers Adds Value to Your Home

When you think about awnings and canopies, pergolas or patio umbrellas, you are thinking about different types of patio covers. Anything overhead protection that keeps you safe from the elements when you are relaxing outside your home can be considered a patio cover. Typically they are attached to the home but they can be their own safeguard from the weather. When you break them down in this kind of classification they will either be portable or permanent. An awning is an example of a portable patio cover as it can be rolled up into itself and left to hang at the side of the house. While a pergola or a gazebo is an example of a permanent cover.

You can not only gain a great place for some shade but you will be kept safe from undesirable weather and harmful UV rays. You will also gain some market value for your home by
installing a patio cover. When you install any type of cover like this it becomes an addition to your home. This will add to the market value. Of course the higher quality the material used in an outdoor patio cover, the more long term value your home will have. Quality includes materials like metal or aluminum. There are canvas covers but these are more for patio umbrellas than patio covers. However there are some awnings that are made from highly durable canvas material.

Vinyl
patio covers are fairly popular. They can endure some extreme weather and last a long time. It is also inexpensive. Sometimes you can get a patio cover kit and do the work yourself. Maintenance on a vinyl cover is minimal and requires only a blast of the hose. Sometimes you may have to use some soapy water for tough stains like bird droppings but generally a hose can get the job done. Aluminum is a light weight material which is also inexpensive but it can take much heavier burdens in inclement weather, so it tends to be more durable than vinyl. Regardless of the material you choose, you know you are adding value if you properly maintain your patio covers.

Why You Should Purchase an Aluminum Patio Cover

The main dilemma that homeowners face when choosing a patio cover is deciding which material they would like to purchase. They already understand the benefits of patio covers, including an improved outdoor space, freedom to be outside in bad weather, and patio furniture protection. One of the best choices in patio cover materials is purchasing a cover made of aluminum.

Aluminum
covers require the least amount of maintenance and cleaning of all cover materials. They are also resistant to termites, which is a problem for many people in their yards. They are also the most durable and lightweight covers on the market, and are capable of handling all weather conditions without problems. Aluminum covers are very easy to install in your yard, and can often simply be attached to your roof or patio slab. Drainage systems can be built onto the covers with ease, if you think this would improve your patio.

Aluminum
is also very basic, meaning that it supports a variety of colors and designs. It can be customized however you would like it, so that it will be able to match your home's siding or patio colors, or anything else. It also will not rust, unlike other materials, and do not require much anchoring to your home because they are so light.

Some
aluminum covers can be of the transparent variety - these covers allow a portion of sunlight from the sky to pass through to your patio. They can also be made insulated by placing foam in between two sheets of aluminum to make a cover. Lastly, they can also be installed at a variety of angles so that rainwater will drain away from where you are sitting underneath it and into the direction of your choice.

All in all,
aluminum is the simplest material to make a patio cover from. It is easy to install and highly customizable, as well as cheap compared to other materials such as wood and metal. It is the best value overall and will easily last longer than other materials would. Don't waste your money and splurge on a wood patio cover when aluminum is all you need to buy to create an improved living and entertaining space in your backyard.

When you build a patio that is covered, it serves a different purpose altogether. You can enjoy the outdoors while keeping yourself protected from the elements of nature.

Types of Patio Covers
When you set out to build a patio, there are different types of covers that you may choose from. These include clapboard roof, aluminum patio covers, canvas awnings, or wooden gazebos. If you want a long-lasting solution, the metal covers are the best. Wood is very high on maintenance and can warp if the quality of the wood is not up to the mark.

Wood Patio Covers - Making Your Home Both Beautiful And Functional

Wood is naturally durable and has been used for millennia as tools, furniture, homes and whatever else anyone could think of. And that's not to mention it can be beautiful beyond belief. If you do not mind the time it takes to maintain its look, then certainly wood patio covers can be perfect for improving the look and functionality of the space outside your home. The results can be very elegant and romantic.

Why add a patio cover? It is very simple actually. Patio covers allow you to enjoy your patio any time that you want to. If it is raining, you can still sit outside to enjoy the cool night air. The same applies during the summer when you can enjoy the shade that the patio cover will provide. Furthermore, the patio cover adds value to your home and improves the style as well. Utilizing wood as the material for your patio cover allows you to create something unique. The appearance of your house and the functionality of it will be completely in your control.

Wood choice is of supreme importance because the patio cover will be under constant bombardment from the elements. Your choice will need to be able to hold up to your areas weather conditions, and you do not want to have to constantly repair or treat it. When you begin your search, also keep in mind your current home appearance so that whichever wood you choose will compliment it.

Out of all of your choices, pinewood will keep paint very well. Unfortunately, though pinewood does not come with an anti-rotting agent. This is not so with other hardwoods. Several good choices for hardwood patio covers include cedar, cyprus and redwood. Staining the wood would require a long grained wood choice. Using a long grain wood allows a continuous and flowing design that knots in the wood will not hinder.

You can be very creative with your cover by adding decorative accents and designs to it. Going this extra mile will add a lot to the style, design and value of the cover, and your home as well. You may want to consider using arbors, latticed and solid roofs for your patio design. The arbors and lattice are intricate and ornately beautiful - you can try a combination of them to get something unique.

Keep in mind that manufacturers have been busy creating patio covers made from artificial wood. They are not wood and quite often need support by using real wood. Why bother adding real wood to fake when you could just use real wood to begin with? You will just increase your costs. These same companies have also created do it yourself wood patio kits. These kits are actually interlocking wooden tiles, much like those used for flooring, and can be taken apart to be cleaned and reinstalled at another location if need be. However, in the end, wood patio covers are the only sound choice you can make.
